Lee Club Raises Money for New Hope Pregnancy Center

Lee University's Students for Life club recently held a fundraiser to raise money for New Hope Pregnancy Center in Cleveland, Tennessee. They presented a check of $1765 to the organization during their monthly meeting.

The club sold Choo Choo Kettle Corn around campus and to friends and family throughout March. Three anonymous donations of $100 total were received, as well. Proceeds from the sale went to New Hope for the purchase of new computers, which will be used by new and expecting mothers to watch online parenting videos.

"The club members worked very hard selling the popcorn across campus and raising funds for this worthy cause," said Jeannie Duff, lecturer in nursing at Lee and club sponsor.

New Hope's Sandee Williams, client services manager, and Tyler Donavon, development specialist, shared New Hope's mission at the meeting and answered students' questions.

New Hope Pregnancy Center is dedicated to offering help, hope, and accurate information to new and expectant mothers, especially those facing unplanned pregnancies. They offer a variety of resources, including free ultrasounds and pregnancy tests, essential care items, and counseling and coaching provided by trained client advocates, all in a confidential, non-judgmental environment.

"It has been such a wonderful experience getting to do the popcorn fundraiser with Students for Life," said Katherine Krueger, a freshman political science and Spanish double major and club president. "Not only was the popcorn delicious, but I watched the entire club rally together with their time and resources to really make a difference. I'm grateful for both the money we were able to raise, as well as the passionate people we get to work with in SFL. The fundraiser was a blessing to all of us!"

Students for Life, a chapter of the national Students for Life organization, is a service club dedicated to promoting life in all stages. The club frequently partners with New Hope, volunteering to serve communities of the pre-born and women and families in crisis. Club officers include Katie Krueger, president; Brooklyn Dobyns, vice president; and Molly Champlin, secretary/treasurer.

Choo Choo Kettle Corn is located in Chattanooga and serves fresh-popped popcorn to the surrounding areas. For more information about Choo Choo Kettle Corn, visit them on Facebook at @choochookettlecorn.
