KDP Inducts New Members

The Lee University chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) recently held an induction ceremony for 15 new members.

"KDP's mission is to inspire and equip future and new teachers to thrive," said Dr. Shane Brown, director of Lee's teacher education program and field experience, as well as KDP counselor. "Its vision is to promote excellent teachers who build thriving communities and create lifelong opportunities by providing quality, equitable education for all. These candidates truly exemplify these things in their coursework, service, and educational practicums. They have risen to the top as individuals who will truly inspire the next generation of students."

The new inductees include Erin Ashe, Madison Brown, Cali Casanova, Megan Elam, Fatima Fernandez, Samantha Lawson, Brooke Long, Mary North, Julianna Ogden, Stephanie Pope, Anna Rich, Bailey Rogers, Karmen Sanders, Alison Taylor, and Lillian Welch.

"The induction ceremony had many highlights, one being hearing from special guest speaker Mrs. Beth Nunez, who delivered a powerful, stirring message on the importance of maintaining compassion and righteousness in the classroom," said Casanova. "The ceremony was both an edifying and inspiring experience for future educators!"

Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education was founded by William Bagley, Truman Kelly, and Thomas Edgar Musselman in 1911 at the University of Illinois to foster excellence in education and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching. The founders chose the name from the Greek words knowledge, duty, and power.

For over a century, the Society has consistently grown, starting with a local chapter to become the international organization it currently is, with an initiated membership that exceeds 1.2 million.
