Faculty Present at ACA Conference

Twenty faculty were invited to present at the Appalachian College Association (ACA) 2021 Annual Summit: A Community of Collaboration, which took place in September.

"The Lee faculty always represent the university and Cleveland so well at the annual ACA Summit," said Dr. Debbie Murray, provost and vice president for academic affairs. "This is a great place for them to share their expertise. I am especially proud of the growing number of presenters and the diverse disciplines."

Lee faculty led 10 different presentations on disciplines ranging from education and teachers to business management and nursing. The conference's concurrent sessions focused on four themes of practice, with emphasis on this year's Summit theme "Innovation."

Some of their presentations included "Innovation Doesn't Start with "I" - It Starts With "Us;" "From Passive to Participatory: Music in the General Core;" "Effective Pre- and Post-Lecture Activities that Improve Learning;" and "Cultivating an Interdisciplinary Community of Mentorship for Student Success."

Among the 20 Lee faculty presenters, there were seven from Lee's Helen DeVos College of Education (HDCOE), two from the School of Nursing, two from the School of Music, three from the School of Business, four from the Department of Natural Sciences, and two from Lee Online.

The presenters from the HDCOE included Dr. Laura Anderson, Dr. La-Juan Bradford, Dr. Shane Brown, Dr. Jo Ann Higginbotham, Dr. Delia Price, Dr. Jason Robinson, and Dr. Deborah Rosenow. Nursing faculty presenters included Kathleen Rose and Jessica Price; faculty from the School of Music were Lauren Buckner and Dr. Phillip Thomas; Dr. Michaelia Black, Dr. Guy DeLoach, Dr. Mava Wilson, along with undergraduate student Clifford Jones, represented the School of Business; science faculty presenters included Edward Brown, Dr. John Hearn, Dr. Sherry Kasper, and Dr. Sarah Schlosser; and presenters from Lee Online were Dr. Joshua Black and Rusty Wienk.

The mission of the ACA is to serve Appalachian communities through the transformational work of its faculty, staff, and students. Programs offered by the Association are designed to promote cooperation and collaboration among member institutions, and to support scholarly and creative activities of faculty and students.
