Following its annual board meeting in January, the Lee University Board of Directors awarded tenure to two faculty members, effective August 2020. The new tenured faculty members are Dr. Lenena Brezna and Dr. David Broersma.
Brezna has been a member of the Lee University faculty since 2014 and serves as an assistant professor of voice. She has performed with numerous operas and symphonies, including Amici Opera, Natchez Opera, Pensacola Opera, Mississippi Symphony, Corinth Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, and Mexico City Symphony.
Brezna earned her Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Memphis, her Master of Fine Arts from Louisiana State University, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Mississippi.
Broersma joined Lee's Department of Language and Literature in 2014 as an associate professor of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and linguistics. He teaches courses such as English Language Structure and Theory, Second Language Acquisition, and Introduction to Linguistics.
Before coming to Lee, Broersma lived and worked in Moscow, Russia, for 17 years at the Russian-American Christian University and Hinkson Christian Academy. He also served as the program director for the Master of Arts in TESOL at LCC International University in Klaipeda, Lithuania.
Broersma earned his Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Arts from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and his Bachelor of Arts from Purdue University.
