Colony House to Open Fall U-Church Series
Lee University will welcome indie rock band Colony House on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center. The quartet will open a U-Church series that also includes For King and Country and An Evening of Worship.
"U-Church services are some of the most exciting events we host each year," said Rob Fultz, campus pastor. "This semester, we have a great line-up of amazing artists that will lead us into an incredible worship experience. Our students are shaping culture in a complex world as a result of great events like these."
Colony House, consisting of brothers Caleb and Will Chapman, guitarist Scott Mills, and bassist Parke Cottrell, is an alt-rock band from Franklin, Tennessee, that began in 2009 while they were in high school. They self-released three EPs followed by their debut album, "When I Was Younger," in 2014.
Colony House has released two studio albums and toured with Needtobreathe, Ben Rector, Switchfoot, and Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors. They have also appeared on NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers."
In an interview with Billboard's Taylor Weatherby, they described themselves as rock n' roll artists and "storytelling songwriters," with a goal of being vulnerable in their music.
"We don't want our music to be an escape from reality," said Caleb Chapman. "We want to be part of that reality with our fans, and we want to give them an hour and a half of something inspiring and hopeful."
The U-Church series will continue on Oct. 7 with For King and Country, an Australian Christian pop duo based in Nashville. They have released four albums, toured with Casting Crowns and performed on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!".
On Nov. 18, U-Church will conclude its fall series with "An Evening of Worship." This event is a unique worship opportunity designed and led by Lee students. Attendees often encounter diverse styles of worship, including music by LeeU Worship, spoken word, dance, art, and Communion.
"We invite everyone to become a part of what God is doing here," Fultz said.
U-Church is a free, non-ticketed event open to students, alumni, and the community. Seating is first come, first served.
